Memorial Hermann Health System Selects Stanley Healthcare Hugs Infant Protection for Its Houston Area Hospitals
Nine Acute Care Hospitals in the Houston Network to Use Stanley Healthcare’s Market Leading Solution to Promote Safety, Security and Operational Efficiency
NEW ORLEANS (HIMSS13), March 5, 2013 – Stanley Healthcare today announced that Memorial Hermann Health System, the largest not-for-profit health system in Southeast Texas, has chosen to standardize on the Hugs® Infant Protection Solution to provide infant security at nine of its hospitals offering maternal childcare services in the greater Houston region.
The strategic decision to partner with Stanley Healthcare for infant security was taken after the successful adoption of the Hugs solution by four hospitals within the Memorial Hermann group, including a pioneering deployment at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center encompassing both newborn and pediatric patient protection (watch customer video about the deployment).
“Our nursing staff identified the Hugs system as the preferred solution for infant security from a nursing perspective, based on performance, ease of use and peer recommendation,” said Joe Bellino, System Executive for Security & Law Enforcement at Memorial Hermann Health System. “A thorough review of solutions available confirmed that the Hugs system is the best choice for our infant security. Four key factors led to our decision: Hugs’ track record of reliability as seen in our own hospitals; Stanley Healthcare’s proven responsiveness to our needs; the corporate reputation and stability of Stanley Black and Decker; and the best in class support available to us from authorized partner Tech Systems, Inc.”
Memorial Hermann Health System has initiated projects to implement the Hugs solution at five of the hospitals. Of these, two are already in operation, including Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, the primary teaching hospital for The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical School (UTHealth), and Women’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands specializing in healthcare for women.
When the Stanley Healthcare solution is fully deployed at all nine hospitals, it will help to protect over 20,000 newborns every year and deliver operational efficiencies to Memorial Hermann. Having the same solution across the hospitals supports uniform policies and procedures, thus greatly simplifying training for nursing and security staff and promoting awareness of infant security. Staff can move among facilities and quickly fit in. “Simplifying operations is a major goal for us,” commented Bellino. “By standardizing on Hugs, we have one system, one policy and one procedure. This makes us more nimble and responsive to the needs of our patients.”
In use at over 1,200 hospitals worldwide, Stanley Healthcare Hugs Infant Protection is the leading solution for protecting infants from abduction and preventing mother/infant mismatches. Stanley Healthcare also supports protection for pediatric patients from abduction or patient flight.
Diane Hosson, Director of Security Solutions at Stanley Healthcare said, “Memorial Hermann’s decision to standardize on Hugs to protect its infants is a strong endorsement not just of Stanley Healthcare’s technology, but also of our commitment to work with hospitals to further safety, security and operational efficiency. We look forward to continuing to build our relationship with Memorial Hermann Health System for years to come.”
Stanley Healthcare will be showcasing its solutions and customer case studies in its booth #8441, in the Intelligent Hospital Pavilion and in partner booths at the HIMSS13 conference in New Orleans, March 3 – 7, 2013.
