AACD Hospital Deploys STANLEY Healthcare’s Real-Time Visibility Platform to Provide Exceptional Pediatric and Adult Patient Care

Comprehensive Real-Time Location System (RTLS) solutions set a new benchmark for patient safety and operational efficiency in Brazil

WALTHAM, Mass. and SÃO PAULO, Brazil, August 25, 2015 — STANLEY Healthcare, a market leading provider of visibility solutions and analytics for the healthcare industry, has deployed multiple solutions of its STANLEY Healthcare AeroScout® Real Time Location System (RTLS) platform at Association of Assistance for Disabled Children (AACD Hospital – Abreu Sodré unit) in São Paulo, Brazil, one of Latin America’s leading hospitals for children and adults with disabilities. The integrated solutions for staff workflow, environmental monitoring and asset management place AACD at the forefront of technological innovation in Latin America for patient safety and operational efficiency.

The hospital-wide, Wi-Fi solution is the result of a close partnership between AACD, STANLEY Healthcare and Innovo Tecnologia, an authorized STANLEY Healthcare partner. The hospital has developed a long-term strategic plan for leveraging Real-Time Location System (RTLS) technology to transform care delivery and the patient experience, with four key use cases for STANLEY Healthcare’s technology as the first phase:

  1. Patient Flow: Improving operational efficiency by automating patient flow throughout the entire surgery cycle including:
    • Patient check-in;
    • Pre-surgery preparation;
    • Transportation;
    • Surgery;
    • Intensive care;
    • Recovery;
    • Discharge;
    • Patient check-out.
  2. Patient Elopement: Increasing patient safety through real-time tracking of patients throughout the hospital.
  3. Asset Management: Ensuring 24x7 availability of critical medical assets.
  4. Environmental Monitoring: Increasing the safety of temperature-sensitive items such as pharmaceuticals as well as automating temperature and humidity monitoring in surgery rooms.

With the implementation of this innovative technology strategy, AACD is now one of the leaders in Latin America in leveraging real-time location data to transform patient care and healthcare delivery. By using STANLEY Healthcare’s AeroScout RTLS platform, the hospital will be able to significantly improve surgical operations, decrease costs, and improve staff and patient satisfaction. The complexity and broad set of use cases of the project earned Innovo Tecnologia recognition as the Top Achiever in Latin America at the 2013 STANLEY Healthcare Global Partner Summit.

Founded in 1950, AACD has grown to become one of the leading providers of health services to people with physical disabilities in Brazil, with 15 rehabilitation centers and six orthopedic campuses throughout the country, in addition to the 121-bed hospital. True to its founding mission to provide comprehensive medical care and rehabilitation services, regardless of ability to pay, AACD is supported by charitable donors from throughout Latin America via several fundraising channels, including the annual event Teleton.

“We’re pleased to have helped AACD”, said Newton Freire, president and CEO of Innovo Tecnologia. “STANLEY Healthcare’s AeroScout RTLS platform provides them with real-time visibility into what’s happening throughout their hospital on a minute-by-minute basis, which is invaluable information for instituting process improvements and providing exceptional patient care.”

“Not only is AACD one of the leading hospitals in Brazil for children and adults with disabilities, but they also enjoy the distinction of being a global leader in adopting RTLS to transform healthcare delivery,” said Greg Borecki, VP sales, international and strategic alliances, STANLEY Healthcare. “We’re honored to have had the opportunity to work with them to deploy four different use cases of our AeroScout RTLS platform to decrease costs, increase efficiency and enhance patient satisfaction.”
