Florida Hospital Orlando Study Confirms STANLEY Healthcare Environmental Monitoring Solution Is Effective, Efficient Alternative to Temperature Chart System
Poster session of results to be presented at AABB Annual Meeting, October 22-25
WALTHAM, Mass., October 18, 2016 —STANLEY Healthcare, a market leading provider of visibility and analytics solutions for the healthcare industry, today announced that its AeroScout® Environmental Monitoring solution will be the subject of a poster session being presented at the 2016 AABB Annual Meeting, taking place in Orlando, FL, October 22-25. The poster session will be delivered by Ericka Urrutia-King, BSMT, Senior Medical Technologist, Transfusion Service at Florida Hospital Orlando.
Entitled “Florida Hospital Transfusion Service Goes Wireless,” the poster session establishes that external remote wireless temperature monitoring systems – specifically STANLEY Healthcare’s Wi-Fi based AeroScout Environmental Monitoring solution – are as accurate as the commonly used temperature chart system, while generating significant labor efficiency gains by eliminating the need to regularly replace charts and making data more readily available to technologists via computer or mobile device.
Florida Hospital Orlando Transfusion Service Department selected the AeroScout solution after a review of a number of remote temperature monitoring technologies, and then conducted a study of the solution to evaluate its performance relative to the temperature chart system already in place. The study involved a range of equipment – including refrigerators, platelet incubators, freezers, water baths, and heating blocks – and made use of STANLEY Healthcare’s T5 family of sensor tags.
The Transfusion Service Department took a total of six months to collect data, and conducted validation in the final four weeks based on a comparison of a range of reports generated by STANLEY Healthcare’s MobileView® software platform with data from the temperature charts. As a result of the review, Florida Hospital Orlando has now gone live with STANLEY Healthcare’s wireless monitors and removed all paper charts from its instruments.
“The extensive validation process convinced us that remote wireless monitoring with the AeroScout solution was an effective and safe method to monitor temperature conditions in our storage units,” says Diana Ramirez, MS, MT, Manager Transfusion Service, Florida Hospital Orlando. “As a result, the Blood Bank Technologists at Florida Hospital no longer have to change charts on a weekly basis and check temperatures daily, saving valuable time that can now be directed towards our most fundamental goal, which is ‘To extend the healing ministry of Christ' to our patients.”
The Environmental Monitoring solution at Florida Hospital Orlando is part of an enterprise deployment of the AeroScout platform across multiple campuses of Florida Hospital that includes Environmental Monitoring, Asset Management, Patient Flow, Staff Workflow and Infant Protection.
STANLEY Healthcare’s AeroScout Environmental Monitoring solution is a cost-effective way to continuously monitor temperature and humidity conditions across the enterprise, including refrigerators, freezers and room-temperature storage. The solution combines real-time information with the powerful visual analytics of MobileView Analytics to give healthcare organizations entirely new levels of operational insight for immediate action, historical review and trend analysis. The automated, wireless solution enables hospitals and clinics to improve patient safety, facilitate regulatory compliance, increase staff efficiency and productivity — all while avoiding unnecessary costs.
The AABB Annual Meeting is the leading educational forum for healthcare professionals involved in the advancement of transfusion medicine, patient blood management and cellular therapies, attracting more than 5,000 attendees from across the globe.
